The principles behind freedom of association (FOA) are deep-rooted in International Labour Organization conventions, which uphold it as a fundamental human right. However, for some employers it remains an obligation difficult to implement particularly with a ‘one-size fits all’ approach that covers many countries and cultures.

When issues arise, global labour organisations can be quick to criticise, often triggering a series of very public campaigns through unions or NGOs. Brands often report that these campaigns don’t always give a balanced picture.

We work with global employers giving practical advice on strategy; implementing local solutions; and developing knowledge and skills of local teams, managers, suppliers and factories.

Drawing on our expertise and experience we offer a clear way forward for tackling this difficult subject, minimising risk for your entire organisation from head office to factory floor.

Our experience of working with the International Labour Organization, Ethical Trading Initiative, Better Work, global unions, NGOs, domestic governments and employer groups brings significant advantage and knowledge to our clients.
We have worked extensively in Asia, Africa, Europe and South America, as well as with organisations headquartered in the US.

Training on FOA and collective bargaining
Our workshops are aimed at those working in supply chain management, ethical trade, sustainability, CSR and HR, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to bring good practice to their organisations. The focus is on practical implementation rather than regulation or theory.
Workshops are run regularly in the UK, US, Hong Kong and Thailand. However, we can also offer training for employers in locations they choose.
